Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start writing!

Living with a disability after an accident has brought many changes to my life, but one of the most rewarding has been our move to a peaceful rural countryside cottage. It’s a dream come true in so many ways, yet it also comes with its own set of challenges. What I lack in physical ability, especially when it comes to building and heavy labor, I make up for with ideas, technical experience, and a deep passion for creating and improving our home. Thankfully, my partner is there to handle the heavy lifting, turning our shared vision into reality.

I wanted to share our story not just to document our journey, but to offer encouragement to anyone out there who might feel limited by their skills, age, or physical condition. Whether you’re disabled, elderly, or just feeling overwhelmed, remember: it’s okay to ask for help. And I don’t mean begging or feeling like a burden. I mean reaching out—putting it out there on social media, forums, community boards, or even local groups. You’d be surprised how many kind-hearted people are willing and eager to lend a hand. Sometimes, all it takes is one post, one message, one connection to get the support you need.

We’ve learned that if you don’t ask, you don’t get. There are people who want to help, who enjoy sharing their skills, or who simply want to be part of something meaningful. Asking isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a way of inviting community and collaboration into your life.

Our projects, which once might have taken me a day or a week, now may stretch over months. But that’s okay. Progress isn’t about speed; it’s about persistence and heart. Every small step forward is a victory. We celebrate every bit of progress, knowing that as long as we keep moving toward our goals, we’re succeeding.

To anyone out there facing similar challenges—know that you are not alone. You can still dream, still build, still create. Your pace might be different, your methods unique, but your spirit is just as powerful. Embrace the help that’s available, cherish the partnerships you form, and never underestimate what you can achieve.

Together, we’re proving that limitations don’t define us. They simply shape the unique path we walk, one thoughtful, determined step at a time. If you’re thinking about reaching out for help or starting your own project, I encourage you to take that step. You might just find that your community is ready and waiting to support you.

Injury, Recovery, and a New Beginning: Our Journey to the Countryside

In 2014, my life took an unexpected turn when I suffered a serious injury. The road to recovery was challenging, and along the way, I faced additional health issues that limited my ability to do manual labor. For years, I had to adapt, finding new ways to manage daily tasks and dream about a different lifestyle.

Fast forward to 2022, and after much thought and planning, we made a bold decision to move to the countryside. We now have an acre of land where we are building chicken housing, polytunnels, and raised beds. It’s a big project, especially since my partner had no previous experience in these areas, but he has become my hands and manual strength. His dedication and willingness to learn have been nothing short of inspiring.

Because of my health, what might have taken me a day or a week to do now stretches over months. My partner works full-time, so I only get to “steal” a few hours of his time here and there. Despite the slow pace, every small step forward feels like a victory.

This blog is for anyone who feels limited by illness, age, disability, or inexperience. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Whether it’s reaching out on social media or simply asking a neighbor, the key is to seek out those who want to support you without imposing. Community and connection can make all the difference.

Our plans for the land include building poly tunnels, raised beds, chicken housing, fruit hedging, and even an orchard. We hope you’ll join us on this journey, learn alongside us, and cheer us on as we turn our countryside dream into reality.

Thank you for being part of our story. Together, we can grow, adapt, and thrive no matter the challenges life throws our way.
